Components of Introduction and Conclusion

The components that go into an introduction are getting the audience’s attention, indicate purpose and thesis, establish credibility, and preview main points. For conclusion the components are reviewing the main points, reinforce purpose, and provide closure. How I will use these ideas in my Informative Speech is by to make sure I continuously gain my audience’s attention. The introduction I will have to use an attention getter to help create interest in the speech, such as “Have you ever thought about what ways the media impacts today’s society?”. I have to make sure I clearly state everything in my introduction so that the audience knows what to expect and listen for. In the conclusion I will recall everything I have spoken about in the speech.

  1. Hello there Kai!

It is very important to know the components of what a introduction and a conclusion consist of because we start off with an introduction and should end with a strong conclusion. By grabbing the audience's attention they should be instantly interested in what you are trying to speak about. Making clear of the main points will be just as important because that is what you will be talking about throughout the speech plus the supporting materials to back up your points. So hopefully we can both take in the right components of the introduction and conclusion! :)

  2. Hey kai!
I agree with you about having to grab the audience's attention at the beginning. The beginning is the very important part, because not only does it inform the audience of what we're about to talk about, but it also determines if the audience wants to pay attention or not. This is all depending on how you present your introduction. Including a strong conclusion is very important also, because it's nice to complete a speech with a few final words. Preferably the last sentences just review the main points to make sure that the audience caught on with the whole speech.

  3. I agree that the introduction should be very clear with all the main points previewed in it. Like the teacher said how when the speaker introduces parts of the main points in the body the audience gets to understand what they are about to hear. The introduction should be interesting so the audience will stay in tune with the speaker and not just fade off. The conclusion should be just as clear as the introduction so it can end smoothly. Reviewing each main point will help the audience recall what you had said earlier and it will leave a more memorable impression.
