Concept that was Helpful

The concept I thought was most helpful in preparing for my speech was how to manage my voice during my speech. When I’m nervous I speak very fast, which I did in my first speech presentation. After reading the helpful concept, I did a lot better with the second and third speech. There were four points for managing your voice which were speaking loudly enough, varying your rate, pitch, and volume, avoiding vocalized pauses, and articulating your words clearly and pronounce them correctly. A speaker has to remember to have their audience able to hear them so they don’t have to strain themselves. Having different levels in your voice makes you stand out and keeps the audience interested too. Monotone is no good for a speech, along with vocalized pauses.

  1. Hey Kai,
Volume when making our speech is one of the important things that we must keep in our mind. Like you said, there are different types of managing our voice. I think there are times when we use these different types to present. It would give an advantage to our speech, such as getting the audience's attention or clearly telling the audience the main key or points by giving a louder tone. Also, monotone is our enemy since it keeps the audience from being entertain. =]

  2. Hello,

I must agree that volume is probably the biggest that we need to worry about as speakers. Our content and delivery may be superb, but what would we be without a projective volume! I had always struggled with my volume, mostly because I had a deep, grumbling voice that I always thought was loud. For the first two speeches I know for a fact that my volume was still affected, but on the third speech, I decided that enough was enough and decided to project my voice.
